This low-cost preamplifier is designed for pulse counting of typical input signals from channel electron multipliers. Theoretical maximum count rate is 10e7 pulses per second, dead time and output pulse width are entirely independent of threshold setting and overdrive, but change slightly (+/- 20 % max) with rate. The primary application therefore is pulse counting at not too high rates (some 10e5 s-1), for higher count rates and precise setting of threshold WMT PAD06 is recommended.

This preamplifier /discriminator is designed for processing fast output pulses from channel electron multipliers up to very high count rates. The dead time is rate independent, stable, and selectable in six steps in order to suppress multiple pulses and to allow for a precise dead time correction. The threshold is set with hex-code switches in 256 steps. In addition to the pulse output a ratemeter output is provided, which may be used for monitoring purposes or triggering protective circuitry. The PAD06 is housed in a RF-shielded aluminum case. Each unit is delivered with an individual measurement report.
